A 25-year-old Himalayan brown bear named Rano has begun her journey to recovery after being airlifted from Karachi Zoo to the rehabilitation facility of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) in Islamabad.

The relocation—carried out under court orders following a welfare petition documenting distress, behavioural trauma and injuries linked to prolonged captivity—marks a significant shift in her life.

At the new centre, she is being closely monitored in quarantine, provided with a soft diet and given space to acclimate to her environment. Officials plan to later move her to a sanctuary in the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan, which more closely resembles her native mountainous habitat.
