Aurat March Karachi organisers have confirmed that this year’s march will take place on May 10, shifting from its usual schedule around International Women’s Day in March. Organisers announced the decision during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, where activists outlined their goals and demands for the upcoming event.
Organisers say the new schedule will make the event more accessible for women who manage additional responsibilities during Ramazan. By moving the gathering to May, the team hopes more people will attend and join conversations about women’s rights and social equality.
The date also connects symbolically with Labour Day and Mother’s Day. Activists highlighted the enormous amount of unpaid work mothers perform at home, work that rarely receives recognition in society.
Speakers at the announcement stressed that Aurat March Karachi remains an important platform that pushes for systemic reforms. Organisers demanded stronger action against gender-based violence, discrimination, and social inequality while urging greater political and economic opportunities for women.
They also stressed the urgent need to improve women’s access to healthcare and education. Activists noted that millions of school-age girls in Pakistan still remain out of school, while maternal health challenges continue to affect families across the country.
Since its launch in 2018, Aurat March events across Pakistan have drawn activists, students, professionals, and community groups who raise awareness about gender equality. Participants carry placards, artwork, and slogans that highlight issues such as workplace harassment, economic justice, and equal opportunities.
With the new date set, organisers say Aurat March Karachi will once again create a space for dialogue, activism, and solidarity. The march will highlight women’s contributions to society while strengthening calls for fairness, dignity, and justice.
