Air quality in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as the six districts of the Rawalpindi Division, has deteriorated to hazardous levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) soared to 170 in Islamabad and 173 in Rawalpindi, with other districts recording similarly high values — Attock at 155, Chakwal at 165, Talagang at 168, and Jhelum at 162.

Health authorities have raised alarm as residents report a spike in eye infections, throat irritation, nasal and skin allergies, flu-like symptoms and fevers. In response, the regional health department issued a smog alert recommending that people wear masks, use protective eyewear, consume warm liquids and avoid cold foods and ice cream. Outdoor assemblies and activities at both government and private schools have been suspended.
