The 8th Sindh Literature Festival kicked off in Karachi on Saturday at the Beach Luxury Hotel, bringing together writers, scholars, youth achievers, and cultural performers.
Organised by the Sindh Literature Foundation under the theme “Celebrate the Power of the Word,” the two-day event features literary sessions, live music, and awards for young talents.
During the opening, Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah praised Sindh’s rich heritage, noting its legacy of Sufi saints such as Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and Sachal Sarmast. He also highlighted advances in language digitalisation, saying Sindhi is now supported on Google, making translation easier.
Cultural stalls displayed traditional Sindhi items like Ajrak, Rilli, and Sindhi caps, while dance performances underscored the province’s vibrant traditions.
Speakers at the festival addressed a variety of topics, from the contributions of the Parsi community to Karachi’s heritage, and resistance literature, to education, transgender rights, and preserving cultural history.
The festival will conclude on Sunday with more literary sessions, cultural programs, and a musical performance by Sanam Marvi. Attendance is free, encouraging the public to celebrate Sindh’s literary and cultural richness.
