Pakistan Stands with Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Attacks, Says PM

Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity as Houthi attacks targeting the Kingdom’s civilian and energy infrastructure raise concerns about regional stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the statement on Friday, October 16, 2026, during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Rajeh Tami Albugamy, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.

Sharif congratulated the ambassador on assuming his new position and highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to standing alongside Riyadh in protecting its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

Pakistan Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

During the meeting, the Pakistani prime minister condemned recent attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement, which has targeted Saudi infrastructure, including aviation facilities and energy installations.

One reported incident involved a missile striking a building owned by Saudi Aramco in Dhahran. The attacks have heightened concerns about the safety of civilians and the potential consequences for regional security.

Sharif reiterated that attacks on Saudi territory were unacceptable and stressed the importance of protecting the Kingdom’s critical infrastructure.

Pakistan has consistently expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and called for measures to safeguard its people and national interests.

Defence Agreements Strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Ties

Sharif also referred to the defence agreements between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, describing them as important frameworks for cooperation on regional peace and security.

Pakistan signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia in September 2025. The two countries have also joined Türkiye in the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed in August 2026.

The trilateral agreement provides a framework for collective defence, treating an armed attack against one member as an attack against all three.

These arrangements reflect closer coordination among the participating countries as regional tensions continue to develop.

Prime Minister Thanks Saudi Arabia for Economic Support

The prime minister expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for its longstanding financial and economic assistance to Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia has maintained close economic, political and military ties with Islamabad, including providing financial support during periods of economic difficulty and pledging investment in Pakistan.

Sharif said Pakistan remained committed to strengthening bilateral relations and assured the Saudi ambassador of Islamabad’s cooperation in expanding the partnership.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss shared interests and the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the region.
