ISLAMABAD, October 14, 2026: Pakistan and Oman have exchanged six agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to expand cooperation across several sectors, including media, information technology, historical records and official exchanges.
The agreements were reached during the eighth session of the Pakistan–Oman Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi in Islamabad. The initiative aims to strengthen longstanding relations and create new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
Six Agreements Focus on Multiple Areas
The agreements and MoUs cover several areas of mutual interest, including:
-
Media cooperation: Strengthening collaboration between media organisations.
-
News and information exchange: Improving the exchange of information between the two countries.
-
Historical documentation: Promoting cooperation in preserving historical records.
-
Records and archives management: Supporting the management and exchange of archival information.
-
Communication and information technology: Expanding cooperation in communications and digital technology.
-
Diplomatic and official exchanges: Facilitating official engagement between Pakistan and Oman.
The two sides also signed the protocol of the eighth session of the Joint Ministerial Commission, outlining their commitment to further bilateral cooperation.
Pakistan and Oman Seek Stronger Trade and Investment Ties
During the talks, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, industry, energy, logistics, tourism and food security.
The two foreign ministers also emphasised the importance of strengthening connections between business communities and encouraging investment in special economic zones and free zones.
They agreed to promote closer engagement between private-sector stakeholders and discussed holding a business-to-business investment forum in Pakistan in the near future.
Joint Working Groups to Improve Implementation
A key outcome of the meeting was the establishment and operationalisation of joint working groups covering trade and investment, agriculture, oil and gas, and labour and human resource development.
These groups are intended to maintain regular communication between the two countries and help implement decisions taken during ministerial meetings.
Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of timely implementation through institutional coordination and sustained engagement. Both sides also highlighted the need for closer cooperation in vocational training, workforce mobility and professional development.
Visa Facilitation for Official Passport Holders
Pakistan and Oman also announced an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, service and official passports.
The arrangement is intended to facilitate official visits and improve engagement between government representatives of the two countries. It should not be interpreted as a general visa-free travel arrangement for all Pakistani and Omani citizens.
Leaders Discuss Regional Peace and Stability
The ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments, emphasising dialogue, diplomacy and efforts to reduce tensions.
They highlighted the importance of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb, key maritime routes for global energy and food supplies. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

What the Agreements Mean for Pakistan
The agreements provide a framework for closer Pakistan–Oman cooperation in information exchange, technology, historical preservation and official engagement. The broader discussions on investment, logistics, energy and workforce mobility could also create opportunities for businesses and skilled workers.
However, the practical impact will depend on how quickly the agreements are implemented and whether the proposed initiatives lead to concrete projects, increased trade and expanded employment opportunities.
The eighth JMC session marks another step in strengthening relations between Pakistan and Oman, with both sides expressing their intention to maintain regular high-level engagement.
