Colonel Sofiya Qureshi

In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across the nation, the family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi — a distinguished Muslim officer in the Indian Army — has reportedly become the latest target of violence linked to extremist elements.

Who is Colonel Sofiya Qureshi?

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi recently gained national attention after being appointed as a spokesperson for the Indian Army. As one of the few Muslim women holding a senior position within the defense forces, her presence symbolizes both progress and representation in one of India’s most vital institutions.

What Happened in Belagavi?

According to credible sources, an attack occurred around 3:00 AM at Colonel Qureshi’s ancestral home in Belagavi, Karnataka. The assailants, allegedly linked to RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), not only vandalized the property but also brutally assaulted her son, Sameer.

Witnesses claim that the attackers were searching for Colonel Qureshi’s daughter, Hanima, who was fortunately not present at the time, as she was in Delhi.

Disturbing Threats and Arson

Before fleeing the scene, the attackers reportedly issued grave threats to the officer’s family and set fire to the house, shouting inflammatory slogans, including “Muslims have no place in Hindutva-driven Hindustan.”

Security Response by Indian Army

In response to this shocking event, sources close to the Indian Army have confirmed that Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has been advised to restrict her movements for safety. Furthermore, her entire family has been relocated to Delhi as they are believed to be under direct threat.

Growing Concerns Over Religious Intolerance

This alarming attack raises serious concerns about the rising communal tensions and the safety of minorities, even those serving in top positions within the government and armed forces. The targeting of a decorated officer’s family marks a disturbing escalation that demands urgent attention from both civil society and the state.
