Physical Fitness and Lifestyles Associated with Biological Aging” is a new Aging editorial

Instead of organ- or disease-based treatment, interventional techniques that target aging are needed to address the expanding global aging population.

The cause of breakthroughs in aging biomarkers and measurement and analytical tools (e.g., omics and bioinformatics), the geroscience hypothesis—that delaying aging might prevent disease—is gaining support.

Takuji Kawamura, Radak Zsolt, Mitsuru Higuchi, and Kumpei Tanisawa from Waseda University’s Faculty of Sport Sciences and Hungarian University of Sports Science’s Research Center for Molecular Exercise Science emphasize the importance of studying cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and the DNA methylation (DNAm) aging clock in their editorial.

They want to set fitness benchmarks to prevent aging. They discuss their recent “Associations between cardiorespiratory fitness and lifestyle-related factors with DNA methylation-based aging clocks in older men: WASEDA’S Health Study.”

“This research reinforces the geroscience concept that active lifestyle choices may impact quantifiable molecular biomarkers that capture biological aging,” according to the researchers.
