On May 25, 2025, Twitch pulled the plug on political commentator and popular streamer Hasan Piker, better known online as HasanAbi. According to the automated alert from @StreamerBans on X (formerly Twitter), HasanAbi banned from Twitch as the result of “improper handling of terrorist propaganda.”
Trying to visit his channel now leads to a stark message: banned for violating Twitch’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. The platform has strict policies against sharing content tied to terrorist or violent extremist groups—even if it’s framed in a critical or journalistic way. That means manifestos, recruitment footage, or related material are off-limits, regardless of context.
HasanAbi’s ban from Twitch triggered waves of discussion across the streaming world. Why? Because he wasn’t glorifying anything—he was analyzing. In his post-ban response on X, Hasan explained that he was critically examining the motives behind a recent deadly shooting at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
“I believe this is a bad policy for news and press freedom,” Hasan wrote. “I’ll take the suspension, but hope Twitch changes this policy in the future.”
Some accused him of pushing conspiracy theories. One user even claimed he suggested the attack was a “false flag.” Hasan quickly fired back, stating he was doing the opposite: “Ironically enough, I was showing his motive to dispel the rumours of a false flag,” he clarified.
The ban drew mixed reactions. Fellow streamer Ethan Klein of the H3 Podcast summed it up in a single word: “Yikes.”
