Power tariff increased by Rs 10.1/unit

KARACHI: In yet another load on Karachi electrical customers, the power cost has been increased by Rs10.1 per unit.

According to NEPRA’s announcement, the power rate was increased due to monthly Fuel charge adjustments (FCA) from July 2023 to March 2024.

According to the announcement, new costs would be collected from Karachi users between June and September 2024.

Power customers must pay an extra Rs2.68/unit in June, Rs3.11/unit in July, Rs3.22/unit in August, and Rs1/unit in September.

However, the announcement stated that the new fee will not apply to Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) or lifeline consumers.

Previously, the National Electric electricity Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) authorized a Rs3.3 per unit rise in electricity tariffs for all DISCO users except K-electric.

NEPRA announced that the price increase due to fuel costs adjustment (FCA) will apply to all customer categories excluding Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and lifeline consumers.

Consumers will pay higher power bills in June as a result of the most recent price increase.

Prior to this, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) increased the per unit price of power by Rs3.76 due to quarterly fuel adjustments.

The electricity regulator’s announcement noted that the rise will be effective for three months this year: June, July, and August.

As a result of the increase in power costs, users would face higher electricity bills, with extra rates of Rs 1.90 per unit in June and Rs 0.93 per unit in July and August.
