heatwave in Pakistan

As May continues, sections of Pakistan are witnessing a rapid increase in temperatures typically associated with June.

Lahore is already feeling the heat, with temperatures set to reach 42 degrees Celsius. The Met Department has warned that the heatwave will worsen over the next 48 hours, and residents should take steps to avoid heat-related ailments.

Medical professionals recommend that residents cover their heads before leaving their houses and avoid needless travel during high heat hours. With rising temperatures, worries about heat exhaustion and dehydration are increasing, making it critical for people to remain hydrated and seek shade whenever feasible.

Meanwhile, in Sukkur, the heatwave has intensified, with temperatures reaching 46 degrees Celsius. The Met Department predicts that temperatures will rise considerably higher, possibly reaching 47 degrees Celsius in the next days.

In reaction to the oppressive heat, locals are increasingly resorting to cold drinks to calm down, as well as taking precautions to shield themselves from the hot sun.

Citizens in Sukkur are seen covering their lips and heads to avoid the flu, since high temperatures and sunshine may weaken the immune system, making them more vulnerable to disease.

The Met Department has already issued a fresh bulletin warning about rising temperatures and the probability of rain in many places.

According to the advice, the temperature in Balochistan is projected to climb significantly, by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius between May 8 and 10. Additionally, places like as Quetta and Qalat may see rain accompanied with thunderstorms.

Temperatures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are also expected to be 2 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than average, adding to the misery caused by the upcoming heatwave. Meanwhile, Punjab is bracing for warmer weather, with temperatures anticipated to rise by up to 5°C. Sindh, too, will face scorching weather.
