The Marvel Cinematic Universe has struggled at the box office recently, and it has learnt from its failures by avoiding numerous releases in the same year. Deadpool & Wolverine are the only superhero films due out in 2024, and director Shawn Levy couldn’t help but comment on the franchise’s troubles.
According to Empire, Shawn Levy acknowledged that the MCU has been failing at the box office lately. The franchise used to deliver blockbuster after blockbuster, but the enchantment has waned recently, with 2023’s The Marvels being the lowest-grossing MCU film to far. Now, the company is attempting to learn from its missteps, with Disney revealing plans to limit Marvel’s films and television series in the future.
“You’d have to live under a rock not to know that the last few Marvel movies have failed to ignite the world in the way that so many did,” Levy told the media outlet. “We do arrive at an exciting moment. And we are definitely not the same. Time will tell if it has Messianic proportions.
The Merc with a Mouth has called himself the “Marvel Jesus” in the promos for the next superhero flick, and that may not be far off the mark. The latest episode, which is not considered Deadpool 3, is one of the summer’s most anticipated flicks. “Some of the lines that Ryan, his writers, and Shawn worked on have taken on more meaning,” Marvel chief Kevin Feige said of Deadpool’s nickname.
Deadpool’s creator had high praise for the next film.
Rob Liefeld, who developed the character with writer Fabian Nicieza, discussed the forthcoming part featuring the well-known antihero. The comic book author stated that Ryan Reynolds, who has played the character since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is the reason the forthcoming picture is so interesting.
“Deadpool & Wolverine is going to entertain your pants off,” Liefeld wrote in X. “The X-factor behind it all is Ryan Reynolds. Make no mistake about it. He understands the significance of this crucial position and takes it seriously, which is why the film will be a huge hit. The irony of the MCU currently depending on Fox standouts is not lost on me.”
Aside from the well-known comic book antihero, the film will include another lead character: Wolverine. Deadpool & Wolverine will be the character’s first appearance since 2017’s Logan, albeit the ideas were initially different. Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine “radically” changed the trajectory of the future picture, since the original concept was for Deadpool 3, which is no longer the case.
