On Wednesday, Karachi saw rising temperatures beyond the May average, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned of continuing hot weather ahead.
The PMD’s Early Warning Centre predicts that air humidity levels will continue excessive in the next days, intensifying the heatwave-like conditions.
According to meteorological statistics, the day’s high temperature was 36.9 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees higher than Karachi’s normal May temperature.
Despite the heat, the PMD reported that the city was saved from a full-fledged heatwave, citing winds blowing at 21 km/h over the metropolis.
Wednesday afternoon, humidity reached 59%, up 5% from the previous day. Last night, humidity levels rose to 75%, heightening the sensation of intense heat.
The PMD issued a warning, predicting temperatures to exceed 47 degrees Celsius in central Sindh provinces during the following several days. Residents are encouraged to take all necessary steps to avoid the impacts of excessive heat.
