KU

Over 200 professors, including several deans and senior academics from the University of Karachi, as well as the president of the Karachi University Teachers Society, wrote a letter to professors and students at various US universities expressing their support for the ongoing campus protests against atrocities in Gaza.

The letter expressed strong support for the rallies against ongoing human rights violations in Gaza.

The professors also attacked college regulations and the government’s attitude, highlighting the value of academic freedom.

This letter was sent to more than 40 universities, including Columbia University in New York, New York University, the University of Texas at Austin, Yale University, the University of Southern California, Emory University in Atlanta, Ohio University, George Washington University, Indiana University, and Arizona State.

The letter harshly denounced Israel’s activities in Gaza, describing them as genocide against the Palestinians. It attacked Israel’s aggressive actions and chastised states who provided armaments that enabled such brutality.

The academic community in Karachi has voiced sympathy with academics in the United States in their battle for academic freedom. They also committed to maintain their support for peaceful world relations and the freedom of Palestine.

Since April 24, rallies against Israel have taken place in the streets of Brooklyn and at campuses around the United States, with protestors calling for a stop to civilian killings in Gaza.

Several institutions have responded by requesting that police dismantle protest camps and jail individuals who refuse to leave.
