Customs confiscated illegal products worth billions in last 5 months

Customs: a considerable number of smuggled commodities believed to be worth more than Rs 4 billion have been captured within the previous five months.

The Khuzdar Customs Collectorate released its performance report for the previous five months, which detailed a series of operations and a crackdown on illegal activity.

According to the report, almost Rs four billion in illegal commodities, including fuel, chalea [beetle nut], and Indian gutka, have been captured in the previous five months alone.

The report also included operations performed in two warehouses situated in various districts of Hub and Lasbela, as well as the seizure of over 30,000 gallons of smuggled fuel in the Hub Chowki and Khudabakhsh Marri village areas.

Similarly, 420,000 gallons of fuel were confiscated from warehouses in Hub, Khuzdar, and Bela.

The operations also targeted the smuggling of chalea [beetle nut], with officials seizing an astounding 160,000 kg of the illegal material.

Customs agents seized 16 tankers, 2 buses, and 13 other vehicles suspected of transporting contraband in an effort to undermine the smuggling network’s operations.

Earlier, Karachi police claimed to have detained four people suspected of smuggling non-customs paid fuel from the Manghopir region.

According to the information, after detaining four people, the police seized two trucks carrying more than 1,900 litres of Iranian diesel.

According to the police, a case has been filed against the arrested persons, Asghar, Fida Hussain, Barsat, and Abdul Qadir.

According to police officials, the suspected perpetrators were importing Irani Diesel into the city while posing as vegetable truck drivers.
