Thunderstorms and rain are forecast in Karachi starting today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts thunderstorms and mild to moderate rain, with isolated heavy rains in Karachi today.

In a press statement published on Wednesday, the PMD stated that a westerly wave is impacting Balochistan, and Karachi may see thunderstorms or rain from today (Wednesday) till Friday morning.

Other districts that are expected to receive rain include Jamshoro, Dadu, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Mitiari, T.M Khan, T. Allayar, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Sukkur, and Ghotki.

Meanwhile, the PMD issued a warning of flash flooding in local nullahs/streams across Balochistan.

“Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/Streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan and Manshera from 18th to 20th April,” according to the meteorological bureau’s forecast.

“Possibility of landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan and may affect the vulnerable locations from 18th to 21st April.”

On Monday, the Met Office projected rain, wind, and thunder in Karachi from April 17 (today) to April 19.
