SBCA requested to take action against illegal structures

SBCA

KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has urged the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to make no concessions on the problem of illegal building in Karachi.

During his first visit to the SBCA headquarters after taking up his ministerial position, Saeed Ghani instructed SBCA officers to take ‘indiscriminate and uncompromising’ action against people involved in unlawful building in the city.

He stated that the SBCA’s area additional director would be held accountable if any unlawful development occurred in any Karachi neighbourhood in the future.

The local government minister ordered all building inspectors, senior building inspectors, and extra building inspectors to provide monthly reports on unlawful construction in their areas.

Saeed Ghani stated that the SBCA’s business regulations should clearly specify the mechanism for determining culpability for illegal development in the city.

He also asked SBCA authorities to begin a public awareness campaign to tell people about unlawful structures in the city in order to discourage them from acquiring such properties for their own residence.

The local government minister stated that applicable laws and norms should be modified as needed to guarantee strict legal action against builders engaging in unlawful development.
